The Importance of Skin Care

Your skin protects you every day, and it's time you protect your skin back. Being young, it's easy to take your skin for granted. But the truth is that mistreating your skin today will come back to haunt you later. Once the damage is done, no product can truly reverse the effects permanently.

Effects of skincare seen on twins

Skincare depends on your personal needs, but the basics are cleanser, moisturizer, and daily sun protection. At the root of good skincare is information. It's easy to get swept up by trends and packaging, but doing research and speaking with professionals should come first.

Some of my favourite products:

Vitamin A Retinol Renewal Night cream by Jamieson

Retinol helps prevent wrinkles and promotes skin elasticity. I use this product at night because it's thick and locks in any serums I applied beforehand.

Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore-tight toner by Glow Reicpe

This toner is gentle and hydrating, as opposed to other toners that are drying and harsh. I use this in the morning after splashing my face with water. I do this instead of washing my face as I am prone to dryness, and prefer to cleanse at night.

Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm by Versed

This cleanser is perfect to remove the most stubborn makeup. The balm turns into oil when rubbed in your hands. I use this when I wear makeup and follow up with my normal daily cleanser.

Some products I dislike:

Blemish Control Apricot Scrub by St. Ives.

The problem with this product is that it contains walnut powder, which is highly irritating and damaging to the skin. Although the powder is fine, the miniature granules are still sharp and create microtears in the skin.

Face Wash by Clean and Clear

I used to use Clean and Clear all the time and felt clean after using it. After some years, I noticed my skin was dry. Clean and Clear face wash was actually stripping healthy oils from my skin. Removing these natural oils can lead to infections, premature aging, and even skin cancer.

Single-use sheet masks

The issue with these serum-soaked face masks is not necessarily how they affect your skin, but how they affect the environment. These masks are often made out of material that cannot be recycled and end up in the trash bin.
